Balu my favorite mexican..of course good music is not as popular. Record companies go for as non controversial as possible. Or soemthing they think will sell. For example if one band like korn sells a million records and gives a record company alot of money they will try to sign bands similar to them to get more money.

Thats why bands such as P.O.D., Linkin park, Limp Biskit, Crazy town and countless other bands. Mainstream will not be about quality of music but what will little joey and little sarah buy in Dayton Ohio. Also I will say there are some incredible bands out there that will never get the proper acclaim they deserve. Bands like The coup, dead prez., the roots. artist like talib kweli, common, etc. etc will not be heard outside of america unless you google and search for their asses.

Its sad that good music will not get what it deserves. But one can use the analogy they are like van gough and other artist. Van gough never sold any paintings when he was alive because his paintings wern't what the salons of paris wanted.
Maybe in a few years or a couple of decades people will go..shit thats really good.....

Balu it's not about qualiiy.It's about how many will sell and be with as little hassle as possible. Bands such as Linkin park are radio friendly..no curse words, no overtly political messages. This means no one will boycott the record company.

They want bands that will get alot of mtv play. The more mtv play, the more money. I'm telling you man it's easier to have a song about slicing your wrist then a song with lyrics such as "Uh, who shot Biggie Smalls
If we don't get them
They gonna get us all
I'm down for runnin' up on them
Crackers in they city hall"

I guess some people think talking about killing crackers in city hall is offensive. I'm telling you what i have seen mostly in music they want something controversial but nothing that will screw them over. Espcially with this whole moral religous crap going on with america..lets just say there isnt going to be bands like rage against the machine for awhile..

Nope, haters won't "buy" the CD. There is the 'net. The album has already leaked. Why waste money on worthless music? The post does NOT say bands/artists should not make money and have big publicity... they need food, clothing, housing and other basic needs too. It talks about the SELLOUT music. And sellout = artists/bands changing their style to have more "fans" and are afraid to experiment new stuff, or already have a shitty sound for the above mentioned reason.

I have not bought a CD for ages, like years. I am tired of being ripped off by the music industry so I make it a point to get any music via torrent.

I did a legal purchase, Madonna's latest ... it had lots of DRM on that shit and pissed me off royally. I couldn't even convert it to my iPod (yeah I know that another subject though). The only good thing was the promise I made to myself Never ever legal download again!

I don't really listen to new music and I don’t like the metal/rock stuff at all. I am more into Trance, techno and UK Garage. The Pop Idol/American idol 'music' is mind numbingly dull and I stay as far away from that as I can.

Exactly Liz, record labels these days don't care about the quality of music. They want to make as much money as possible to sue people (to make more money, obviously) with restrictions through RIAA. The artists probably get $1 for every CD sold and the rest, the label takes it.

I'm not against any form of music, it just so happens that rap (gangster rap especially), hip-hop and pop seem to have more sell out bands/artists these days than any other genre. As for American Idol, its another publicity stunt kind of thing promoting sell out music with semi talented judges.

I read somewhere, ages ago, that Madonna has negotiated that she gets a £1 ($1.80) for each CD.

This is an artist that is on the top of her game, knows the biz and has her own production companies .... and that is all that she gets !!!

I am fed up to pay for coke habits, posses and private plans for music execs etc. I am not doing that anymore.
